Problem with XP installation on system with multiple hard drives

When I installed XP, I specifically chose drive C as the installation
location. So why is drive G appearing when I go to my computer??? Did
windows install part of the installation on G and on C drives? How can I
find out exactly where everything is? I want to image my hard drive because
I am tired of having to reinstall windows whenever a hard drive crashes. But
now, I don't even know where to begin imaging a backup. I currently have 3
hard drives and each drive is partitioned into three parts.

XP will install to several "volumes" if they are running during the xp
installation.
Youre best bet, physically unplug the other hds until xp is up &
running.From this
point, you should reinstall xp,the default letter should be C: & the OS should
be on it.Also, with 3 hds,3 partitions per,do you run all 3 hds on the pc,if
so
youre creating a bottleneck & probably why it keeps crashing.....

Come again??? Please explain that further.
(I think the installer may initially offer you a choice, but it will only
install to ONE volume or partition, which is normally C: Why would it
install to other volumes? (makes little sense). The only thing it will
do to other volumes is to set up some System Volume Information folders on
the other drives (at least as I recall).
