Problem with XP Home Add Printer Wizard

Whenever I attach a printer, and go through the wizard it does'nt show any
list of printers to choose from. Just reads "unable to find any drivers for
this device"

Also when I click 'Have Disk" it does'nt pick up the driver on the floppy.
Simply reads ("specified location does'nt contain any information about your
hardware")

I've also tried clicking 'Windows Update' button (in the wizard) but nothing
happens.

Please Help.
Thanks.

What printer, brand and model would help? Do not attach a printer to
your PC before installing the accompanying software. During the software
installation you'll be prompted when to connect it and when to turn it on.
If you do not have an installation CD, go to the manufacturers website and
download whatever they have pertaining to your printer including updated
drivers and software.

I'm trying to install a Sharp JX-9300 which is in the list of printer
drivers that SHOULD be included in XP but in my case are not. There is simply
no list in my case. I have no original software and was finding it very
difficult to find a driver. I finally found a driver and saved it to
floppy...but then when i go through the wizard and press 'HAVE DISK' it
does'nt pick up the driver on the disk. I have tried installing another
panasonic printer (which I do have the original disk for) but i have the same
problem - does'nt recognise the driver on the disk.
Is there no way to reinstall the bit of windows which works the 'add printer
wizard' because mine just does'nt seem to be wizarding anything at the moment.
I've installed quite a few printers on XP before and it's always a doddle
because you can normally just pick your printer from the list. I need the
list!

The Add Printer Wizard reads all the inf files in \windows\inf listing
printer infs. Ntprint.inf is the important one. Look for this file there.
If it is not copy it from the installation CD to this location. If the inf
says the drivers are unsigned you will also need ntprint.cat file.
