Problem With Windows Backup

Not sure if this is the correct group, but couldn't find
one more closely related.

I have a 20GB Removable Hard Disk which I use for backup.
There's 13.4GB available space, and I can't back up 6GB.
Each time I try, it gets to 4.2+ and terminates with
a "Disk Full" message. How can the disk be full? Is
there some backup size limitation in Windows Backup? I've
looked all through the help, but couldn't find anything
referencing backup size limitations. Is there some
setting that I haven't found, and am missing, or does
Windows Backup have a 4+GB backup limit?

Also I thought the data were compressed, but when I look
at the "Advanced" options, the "Compress ..." selection is
greyed out. According to the Help, only Tapes can
compress data. Should I be ZIP'ing my backup data before
backing it up?

Jerold,
Thanks a million, on the head, you hit the nail.
That was exactly what was wrong. I converted the disk to
NTFS and backed up the whole 8+GB without incident.
