Chris

I recently installed a new evga.com Nvidia Geforce4 MX
4000 128mb graphics card. Since then every now and then
windows has trouble starting up. The Windows XP logo
screen will come up but then a blue screen flashes up and
the cpu restarts. I have since found out that this is
a "stop message." It does not to this everytime the
computer starts up and when it happens it will eventually
start up fine after a restart or two. Fter working with
gateway support we determined that it was a compatibility
issue with the video card so I ordered a new one which
should be here later this week. Today I unistalled the
old video card and drivers and went back to using the
internal graphics card the PC came with. Everthing seemed
fine for a little bit but now the computer does the same
thing at startup except the blue screen "stop message"
does not flash up. The XP logo screen comes up then the
screen goes black for a second and the computer restarts.
Remember it does not do this everytime I startup just some
of the time. Please help, how can I fix this problem with
reinstalling windows.

Hi,
I don't know about your computer specifically, but I had a
similar problem.
My system would do that, but, if I let it be for a while, after 1 - 5 min,
it would continue and boot up. I had an S3 AGP card, which wasn't
"certified" to xp.
It seemd that the problem really wasn't with teh video card, par se, but
with the combination
of video and network card. After replacing both, my system has been behaving
so, try yanking the network card and see if the problem changes.
also, check the bios to see if "video uses irq" is checked or unchecked. try
changing that state too..
