Dear all,

I have a problem with a specific Word 2003's document.
This document is a normal word document and I ever use it with Windows XP
and Office 2003.
Now I buyed a new computer with Windows Vista business edition and Office
2003.

This document, every time that I try to open it, crash word....
If I try to open it with another PC with XP installed....working fine....

Please, is very important for me...
Is there something that I can do?

Regards
Mauro

Open Word without a document, from the Help option take "Detect
and Repair". Once it completes use the http://Office.Microsoft.Com
site to get all the updates for Office 2003. It's possible you might have
an issue with your Security software and it's support for hooking into
or scanning Office Documents.

Can you open other Word documents that were created on the
XP setup ? Are there any special conditions ( Passwords...) on
the file that crashes Word ?

One thing that may be a contributing factor is the Normal.Dot,
the Word template file. There should be one in your profile in the
Users folder tree. You may need to replace the template file and
have Word create a new one.

Also when you installed Office 2003 did you take the "Default"
install option or use a custom ( Choose Features ) type ?

What is different about that particular Word Document? The others open, so
what is in it that is different?

Other documents seems to be ok,
The trouble is that this specific document is ok with Windows Xp.
I tried also to copy and paste the text but nothing change...

Do you suggest to delete the normal.dot?

Where's this file?

Regards
mauro

Do a full system search for Normal.Dot - You'll find one located in
your profile path in the \Users tree.

Before doing that, I'd check the ACLs ( Access Control Listing ) &
privileges on the file. You may have a access issue that is causing
Word to fault on opening the file. I'd also Right Click the file and
call up your Virus Scanner to do a check on it.

I think I am having the same problem. If I work from home using new computer
with Vista and then email my word document back to office which has xp - the
file will now open. What is the solution? I have tried to change the .dox to
..doc like in word xp but that doesn't do it either.

It is better to start your own thread, rather than hijack this one.
Are you using Word 2007?
Did you mean "the file will NOT open"?
You can't just rename the file from .docx to .doc, you have to do a "Save
As" in Word and select the older .doc format...

RE: FILENAME.DOCx

I am suffering from the same problem, I am trying to send word doc to prof
and he cannot open so I will try the save as...i must have to right click
because all I have in the left hand corner is a pic of a floppy disk, i clk

You should see a big, round Office Button in the top, left corner of the
screen, right next to the floppy disk icon. Click that button and it will
reveal the Save As menu. Move the pointer over Save As and you will see all
of the different options.
