Problem with UPS monitoring

I have a UPS with a USB cable and monitoring software (Powercheck). When I
plug the USB cable into the computer I get the detection sound, but when the
software loads it cannot find the UPS. This worked fine on a different
computer running Windows XP SP2, but of course this is different hardware.
Any help appreciated.

I was able to determine that the UPS is being incorrectly identified. When
I plug it in two entries appear in the Device Manager in the Human Interface
Devices section, i.e. "USB Human Interface Device" which is described as a
"USB To RS232 Interface" and an "HID-Complient Game Controller". Any ideas
how to straighten this out?
