Problem with Thunderbird not downloading messages from server

I'm running Win2K Pro with a broadband connection. Thunderbird suddenly
stopped downloading email messages two days ago. Everything worked fine
for a year before that. Now I click on the Get Mail button, the status
bar says "Connecting to..." then "Host Contacted, sending login
information" then "Downloading # of #"---and nothing nothing arrives.
There are no dialog boxes telling me that anything failed or that
anything is wrong.

I surfed to the provider and the messages ARE there---Thunderbird is
not downloading them for some reason.

I checked the Account Settings of Thunderbird and nothing has changed
since the day when it worked (and the year before that).

I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions or theories would be appreciated.

More than likely in your Thunderbird Options, something like this >
Leave on Server, untick it.

Propabily a problem with your providers pop server.

These problems usually disappear in a few days, has most likely
nothing to do with Thunderbird.

mail.comcast.net is your incoming mail server, you could ping it.

False Alarm---Sorry!

I turned off my firewall, and the messages came through just fine---now
I have to find out what is wrong with the firewall, but that isn't
freeware so I'm on my own now!

Right click on the logo, probably down next to the clock & look for a
setting or a blocking action against Thunderbird.

Craig,
For the record, what's the firewall?

It's a commercial product, not really on-topic to name it in this NG.

I *DID* find out what happened---the firewall was working just fine. A
friend sent me a screensaver in an exe file and the firewall refused to
accept the exe attachment. That email was the first of several, and so
NONE of them got through because the first one got stopped.

This should not be a function of the firewall in any case. An
anti-virus program maybe but not a firewall.
