I have something annoying me. I'll right click on the system tray and go to
"Customize Notifications". I have had many folders/programs (that I don't use
anymore) minimized in there at some point. When I see the custom
notifications, there are too many programs that it makes thing very bloated.

Is there any way to remove something from the "Custon Notifications" area?

Thanks.

It's all or nothing. You can't remove selected entries from the
Past Items list.

If you want to wipe the slate clean, do the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
In the Registry editor, navigate to this registry key,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

In the right hand pane, right click on "IconStreams" and select
Delete from the menu. Do the same for "PastIconsStream"

Log off from your account and log back on. Check "Customize
Notifications". The only entries should be the current items
displayed in the Notification area.

If you'd rather not mess around with the registry, here's an
automated fix,
