Problem with service pack 2 and a game

The problem I have, before installing SP2 the lucas arts
game Armed and dangerous worked fine.

Now after installing SP2 it asks me to update DX
everytime I try to run the game, I update it to 9.0c it
still happens.

I have checked everything else and tested the game on two
seperate Windows XP systems completely different hardware.

Works perfectly with SP1 but once SP2 is in it keeps
asking me to update DX
