Problem with Repain Install on XP Pro

One of my customers brought his laptop in because the networking had stopped
working and Device Manager was blank.
I thought the best thing to do was perform a repair install. Well, I began
the RI and it seems to be stuck while its installing devices. It's @ the 33
minute mark and still running but its has bot moved from the 33 minute mark
for several hours.
I do had System Internals so I'm able to access the hd and change/delete
files.
Should I go in and delete the Driver dir (in Windodws dir) and/or what files
should I remove to un-stall the repair install?
Thanks, Edison

Several Hours...Figure a failed repair and end it,you could try again, the
system is in a "open loop".As for device mgr,if SP2 is installed,thier is a
hotfix for that,its nos.893249

I know you said 33 minutes but take a look here and see if this is something
you can utilize:

Setup stops responding with 34 minutes remaining:

I'll check the install log and see if there's any useful info there. The comp
was badly infected with spyware. I was able to remove it and the comp worked
fine for a couple days, then this happened.
Is there a way to roll back the repair install and attempt the Hotfix?
Thanks, Edison

Using a repair install on a box that's been cleaned according to the malware
cleaning isn't really always going to result in it being cleaned still. If
you can get to the data on the system at all (try the advice on the page -
that's the best way to go other than a side-by-side installation) then a
clean installation might actually be your safest choice.
