Problem with NTLDR

This seems to be a common error, but i've been through loads of posts trying
to fix it with no joy.

1) Ran XP setup, wiped existing partitions and created a new one, with I
then formatted in NTFS
2) XP setup continues until first re-boot
3) On re-boot, I get the error "NTLDR not found", Ctrl Alt Del to restart.
4) On doing a Windows Repair (pressing R at set-up) and copying over fresh
NTLDR from two different XP CDs I still get the same error.

Any ideas?

The usual reason for 'NTLDR missing' or 'NTOSKRNL not found' messages is that
the BOOT.INI entry is pointing to the wrong partition-number.

BOOT.INI is in the root of the boot partition, and if it's on NTFS then
you'lll need to edit it using BartPE or the like.

How could that be? The boot manager, ntldr, is the routine that
goes looking for boot.ini. If boot.ini points to the wrong partition or
the wrong file in the partition, what will be missing is the operating
system, i.e. "ntoskrnl not found". OTOH, if the wrong partition is
marked "active" or the wrong HD is at the head of the HD boot order
(so that the partition containing ntldr cannot be found), you would
have the current problem and the observed error message.
