Are you referring to this:
Download, install, run the utility and select the .NET versions you wish
to "clean up". After that, you will need to download and re-install the
..NET Framework versions which were cleaned up. Then you should be able
to install today's security updates. It worked for me! :)

or this:
I'd recommend removing the .NET version in question--using this tool if
necessary (or perhaps after the removal) and then putting it back and
running W/M U until no more critical updates are found.

If so, YES I have tried them - and they don't work.

No, at least I don't think so...

Which .NET version is sticking in your situation? Most of what I've read so
far involved 1.1 or 1--but I have one machine--my home machine--which is
sticking on the 2.0 patches. I'll try my own recipe and see what
happens--but I'd stick with that process--removing the version that is not
patching properly, perhaps using the clean up tool as well, then
reinstalling it, and patching.

You CAN call 1-866-pcsafety with these issues in the U.S. or Canada. In
other parts of the world, call the local number for paid support from
Microsoft, and ask for the free help with security patch or virus issues.

Bill, it was .Net version 1.1. I messed around with it last night and this
morning for about 4 hours and finally got it fixed - only wish I could share
with others what fixed it, but I am not sure at this point. I hope others
are more fortunate than I and find a simple solution. Thanks for your help.

One post I saw today stated that a restart fixed the issue for that
particular user, so I'm going to go that route first, just in case. As I
think about it, I've seen similar for .NET updates in the past, I
believe--either a reboot needed, or needing to be the only update installed
in a given run of the installer.

i installed it on 7 computers running xp with no problems.
I found if you do the updatte as a "stand alone" and not with the others it
installs fine.
The only problem i had was with vista. There I have 1.1 and 2.0
I never uninstalled 1.1- just did not want to fool around with it.
I have both on one of my xp computers and again I did the 2 updates, 1 at a
time and had no problems at all.
I will retry 1.1 when i get some time and see what happens

..NET is a little like Java--each version can be needed on an individual
basis--so you can have as many as 4 version, I believes--1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and
3.0, depending on what apps need which versions.

Ok guys, I've had both downloaded for days now and still no installation
success. I've tried installing them one by one and I'm wondering if another
solution has become more obvious in the past few days....do you all think
that I should just do the usual .NET Framework business (aka uninstall then
re-install and patch?) because thats what I've always had to do with previous
patches. Thanks to everyone for all the useful tips.
