Problem with Inserting page number in Excel 2007

Problem: Created spreadsheet in Excel 2007.
Created custom views for tables in the spreadsheet.
Open a custom view then go into print preview.
Insert custom header for Table. Everything OK.
Insert custom footer for Page number. Everything OK
Go to page setup view and change First Page Number from
auto to my assigned page number.(1,2, etc)
Spreadsheet crashes and has to recover. Once recovery is
complete, the data is all OK but
just changing that setting from auto to a number causes the
crash.

Does anyone have any ideas? This has never been a problem in any previous
versions of Excel.

It is 12.0.4407.1005. It's the final Beta version. I ran into further
problems this morning while working on 3-D graphs in the same spreadsheet.
I've done the diagnostics and the tests don't find anything wrong. These
items were never an issue for me in previous versions as I said. I'm
thinking about reloading a copy of Excel 2003 outside the Beta and see if I
have the same problems.
