Excel not responding when changing custom header/footer

Whenever I go to view header/footer, type a customer header or footer, then
click OK twice, Excel goes to a white screen and I have to force quite. I
have uninstalled office and reinstalled, but still have the same problem.
Can someone please help me? I am using Office XP on XP Home. The PC works
fine other than this Excel issue.
