Problem with html messages

I'm using Outlook 2003 SP2, running on WinXP SP2, both
patched fully up to date

Outlook has started acting up. I ran a repair through the
add/remove programs applet, but it didn't affect anything.

The problem is html messages. When I double click on a
message, the system freezes for as long as a minute while
the message loads. During that time, only the title bar at
the top and the task bar at the bottom remain visible. The
screen otherwise is completely white. The same happens if I
attempt to view a message using the preview pane.

It doesn't matter whether the message is old or new (i.e.,
the problem arises whether or not I've viewed the message
before).

Also, when I try to close such a message, the screen again
goes white. As often as not, if I keep clicking the close
button I get a message that Outlook isn't responding, and so
I have to click the End now button (sometimes several
times). On a few, but most, occasions, I can shut down
Outlook only by going through the Task Manager.

The program seems to be fine with text messages. HTML is the
problem. As best as I can tell, the problem never happens
with txt, and always with html. Could be wrong on that last
point, though. The problem has been going on for several
days, but I started paying attention to the format of the
messages only this morning.

Any idea what to do about this one?

Thanks.

It's probably the same problem others are having with the latest updates.
Try uninstalling KB931768 and see if that helps. There are other threads
regarding Outlook being slow and this seems to be the problem.
Have a good day!

I'm having a simular problem, but it only occurs when editing an email.
Using the "Detect and Repair" feature helps but I have to rerun if I ever
close Outlook 2003. Editing a HTML email with Word as the editor works fine
but I don't want to do that as it slows me down as well.

Ha! It worked!

Very good day, indeed.

Thanks very much.
