problem with foreground windows

Matthew Laney

When I click on a program in the taskbar to bring it to the
foreground, it will sometimes bring another, seemingly random, window to
the foreground (ie, behind the one I clicked on, but on top of the
program I was using before I switched). While this isn't a huge
problem, it can be rather annoying when I do a lot of switching
between windows. Any ideas?

TIA,

Matthew

Is this happening with the same kind of windows, like all command prompt
windows or all Internet Explorer windows, or is this happening from
completely different programs, like Word and Command Prompt?

If it is the same program type, XP may be grouping the icons for you down
below. A little red number will display in the taskbar icon for the app if
this is the case.

For fine tuned control, this feature can be turned off in the taskbar
settings. Or you can also use ALT-TAB to switch between active
applications, and that list shows in the order you last used them.
