problem with firefox

I just downloaded Firefox because everyone says it is better than Internet
Explorer. I like the browser, but when I look at some web pages certain
graphics and buttons don't show up. This is especially a problem when I am
writing email because the text formatting buttons do not appear. I do not
have this problem with Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer. I would like to use
Firefox but I can't until I figure out how to fix this!

When you switch to another browser, there are always going to be problems.

Some websites are coded to only work under Internet Explorer. IE uses ActiveX
for a lot of scripting - which is one of the reasons why it's vilified by the
radical security experts. Fortunately, those sites are becoming rarer each
month, as more folks switch to alternative browsers. And the webmasters wake up
and smell the coffee.

Even if a website uses more universal scripting like Java, some radicals think
Java is also insecure, and chose to block all scripting from non-trusted
websites.

People more paranoid than me (and there are plenty of those) treat all unknown
websites as non-trusted. I've not yet used Firefox (I have Netscape), but it's
possible that its default settings could consider websites untrusted until you
set them otherwise.

You might want to check the security settings in Firefox, and see if the
websites you want to use are trusted, and whether scripting (that makes the
buttons work) is enabled for trusted websites.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

I would not consider using a browser based in any way on IE. I have used
firefox since beta .6 and have never had an issue. Microsoft will no doubt
end up writing a web browser to compete and they might even call it IE and it
might even be a really good browser....someday....but for now I would advise
anyone I know or do not know to use firefox. Using IE is just simply too
risky even with Service Pack 2. In fact, I am beginning to consider
abandoning the Windows environment altogether (after being a power
user/developer for 10 years). The only advantage they really have is for
playing video games....

I am a software/web developer and one reason that people might have issues
with firefox is that IE allows programmers to write really bad code and to
get away with it. Many sites have not been supporting a browser besides IE
for some time. If the only browser that they test pages in is IE there is a
very good chance that the coding is poor and does not comply with w3c
standards because IE does not comply with the standards.
