Problem with file Size

D

Dave Evans

I have Excel 2000 and have been working with a standard
data workbook with three worksheets. Cells are either
general verbage (name, address, etc.) or $ amounts with
certain columns in a row added together. I use columns A
to AA and have grown to 789 rows of entry. I do
copy/paste some data frequently between two of the
worksheets.

My problem is that over the last 150 or so rows the file
has grown from around 450K to over 15,000K. It is
impossibly slow (takes more than an minute to go from one
worksheet to the other). There are no graphics or
inserted images.

I backed it up and then deleted all the rows and columns
on one worksheet and the file remained over 15,000K. I
deleted one of the two worksheets entirely and that
reduced the file to 7,000K. Does anyone have any idea
what I might have done and how I might fix it?

Hello,
How are you copy/pasting? Are you highlighting only the
cells that contain data or did you determine a range?

Sometimes excel adds "extra formatting" to a worksheet
when a copy/paste or file conversion occurrs.
You can do a Paste Special and select data only.

In addition, you can download an Excel "Add-In" entiled
Format cleaner, that works with limited success.
This "Add-In" is normally used with converted files and
works well on smaller files 15kb should be fine. I have
difficultly using this on larger 10mb files.
If you need assistance working with Add-Ins I'll watch
for you post.

Good luck
