problem with encrypted folder in Win XP

G

Guest

I had windows XP pro running in c:\windows & my user details were in
\windows\documents & setings\HM

I had d:\HM folder encrypted.

Due to problem windows XP pro is now installed in c:\winXP directory.
with new windows XP user (administrator) I can see only HM folder in
Documents &
settings, but no contents can be seen "access Denied"

Similiraly when I open files from my previous encrypted folder d:\HM, access
is denied. this folder exists and visible, Word,Excell etc. try to open the
file and gives "access is denied".

Pls suggest and mail to
(e-mail address removed)

thanx

Bad news, I'm afraid.

If the your encryption certificates and keys were not backed up
before the reinstallation, and the workstation isn't part of a domain
(whose Administrator might act as the designated recovery agent), those
files are gone, for all practical purposes. Encryption works well and
there is no "back door" or hack to access the files. (Wouldn't be much
point to EFS if it were easily by-passed.)
