problem with encrypted folder

I had Windows XP Professional installed & running uder c:\windows. With this
set up i had one folder in d:\HM encrypted.

Due to problem with windows, I instlalled new windows in c:\winxp directory.

I am not able to access my old login user details in \windows\documents &
setings\HM - it gives "access Denied" Also access is denied while opening
files from my encrypted folder d:\HM

with new windows XP user I can see only HM folder in Documents &
settings, but no contents can be seen "access Denied"

I need acces for Document & setting\HM folder for Outlook pst file. I also
need to recover files from my encrypted folder.

Please suggest and mail to
(e-mail address removed)

thanks

Bad news, I'm afraid.

If the your encryption certificates and keys were not backed up
before the reinstallation, and the workstation isn't part of a domain
(whose Administrator might act as the designated recovery agent), those
files are gone, for all practical purposes. Encryption works well and
there is no "back door" or hack to access the files. (Wouldn't be much
point to EFS if it were easily by-passed.)
