One client of mine encrypted some personal files. And this was working fine.
One day tryied to open one of his file and he couldn't. Access is denied. He
tryed to decrypt the file but there was the same error: Access is denied.

I looked for the certificate but it is valid until 02/06/2108. I tried for
test purposes to apply encryption to a new file and there was the following
error:

Key not valid for use in specified state.

Is there any way to obtain access to his files again?

Thank you very much.

No one knows what encryption software your client is using, or what
procedure they used to encrypt or decrypt this file. For that matter,
nobody knows what operating system your client is using or what type of
file was encrypted. So your guess is as good as mine.

The operating system is Windows XP with SP3 and he used windows encryption.

Thanks for your reply.

Well YOU can't decrypt an EFS encrypted file by someone else.

My guess is the user possibly deleted the orginal EFS certificate and created a new one
and thus can't decrypt that file without the certificate originally used to encrypt it.
