Problem with computer shutdown

N

Nathan

I posted on here before about this and now have more information.

The messages are as follows:

DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL

smwdm.sys Address File 7E0E424 Base @ F7DF6000 Date Stamp 3f5f6eba

Stop 0x000000001 (0x0000000c,[more like a "u" on it's side] 0x0000002,
0x00000000, 0xF7E0E424)

The system crashes when trying to handle large media files, or a large
volume of media files, such as trying to burn a CD, or downloading multiple
mp3 files to an IPOD (usually around 8 or more). Properties indicates that
it is from Sound Max - the audio card manufacturer. Would I be correct that
this file is the culprit? Any help appreciated.

That would appear to indicate a problem with the onboard sound driver
Initially try removing the sound device, in Hardware Devices then rebooting.

Are you certain that you copied the codes correctly? The STOP code
for DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is 0x000000D1 not 0x00000001

The file 0x000000D1 is the prime suspect for this problem, as you have
assumed, and your first step should be to look for an updated version
of this file from the manufacturer's web site.

Good luck

Research suggests it is a driver related to Sound Max Digital Audio.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

You seem to have posted an error in the Stop Error message omitting
the letter D.

Stop 0x000000D1

Hope this helps.

I got that exact error recently when I inserted an extra stick of RAM that
(obviously) was suspect. I realise my suggestion sounds rediculous, but if
you have spare ram lying around, give it a try first.
In my case I tried several other sticks & never got that message but by
reinserting the suspect one, it re-appeared.

Okay, I went to device manager and found no yellow question marks anywhere
there with any part of the sound card. I did have windows do a search for
new drivers from Sound Max and have tried updating them. Time will tell what
happens. Thanks all for the advice.

You dont use win to update drivers, you visit the manu.site
