I had installed Microsoft Antispyware and today it downloaded the Windows
Defender but I have the following problem. When the program is trying to
update its definitions it is stoping with the following error:
WINDOWS DEFENDWE WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE UPDATE:0x8024402c

Can someone tell me what is wrong?

Thanks in advance
PS: I have an IBM R40 with windows XP SP2

Click on Windows Update, and you'll see the update for Windows Defender will
be one of the choices. It will download and install along with any other
updates that may be necessary. This will be a quick fix to keep your machine
current until you follow directions in rookie147's post.

I installed a new sound card and afterwords I was getting the same message.
This is what I had to do. It maybe different for you. I had no sound output..
-Reinstall a non Plug and Play device
-Start
-Settings
-control pnl
-add hdwr
-follow wizard What this did was install each sub group under the main
download. They were all listed but not downloaded.
