Friends,
I am facing a problem with my CD ROM drive.
When I insert any cd and want to play nothing happens.
When I go via My Computer and try to open (drive F) it, a message comes up:
Please insert a disk in drive F.
But in Device Manager it shows that the device is working properly.
Can somebody suggest me how to rectify this problem.
Thanks.

Open the tray and try using a vacuum cleaner on blow for a while - or
use a can of compressed air.

If a fine layer of dust builds up on the laser, the drive won't be able
to work.

I recently got a CD-ROM drive to work again by doing that.

Newbie:

That will happen if one places a DVD in the drive instead of a CD ROM or CD
R. However, you've indicated the behaviour is consistent. Try this then: in
Disk Management, right-click on the most left-hand representation of the CD
Drive and select "Eject". If it is the Microsoft Windows software causing a
problem, that should clear it up. Otherwise, the drive, then, may be out of
alignment or have some other mechanical problem. Either try a "known good"
drive, or, if you are sure of a malfunction, replace.
