Problem viewing imported pst file in Outlook 2007

I'm having problems viewing an imported pst file that I've moved onto my new
computer. I backed my file up to a pst file on my old PC but after having
imported it onto my new one, none of my messages or calendar have appeared
and the size of the original pst file has gone from a few hundred MB to
265kb. I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you

Well that would certainly explain things. My only problem now is that my
original backup pst file has shrunk after I imported it and when I opened it
just now I still had no messages or calendar that I saved. Where has all
that data gone?

You never import PST files. You open them.

We have no idea. Since we weren't watching you so we have no idea what you
did wrong, nor did you list the precise steps used to create your back up,
transfer it, and import it. Importing should have no effect on your original
data file. Done correctly, importing would not lose data like that, it would
only alter it or send it to the wrong location. Didn't you keep a back up of
your data?

Cheers for taking the time to help Russ. I'll go through what I did...

In Outlook 2007 on my old PC I clicked File - Import/Export - export to file
- PST file and saved the file to my secondary hard drive and called it
backup.pst where the file was a fair size (100MB or so)

On my new PC, having opened Outlook 2007, I wrongly imported this file and
even though another 'Personal Folder' appeared below the one that was already
there in the left hand column, there was no Inbox folder or Calendar. When I
checked my secondary hard drive, the size of the backup.pst file had gone
down to 265kb.

So as it stands I have none of my backed up messages or calendar and the
size of the file I backed up has shrunk considerably.

Impossible to say whether you lost data on the export or the import or both.
Exporting is a never the way to back up data. I suspect you lost the data
during the export. Didn't you just make a copy of the data file? That's how
files are backed up.
