problem using certain programs

I keep receiving a message that says i may have a firewall blocking and I am
not online so I need to know how to work online and unblock my firewall so
that the programs can have full access to the internet.

you need to add the programs to the allow list of the firewall

A piece of software is trying to connect to the Internet (?to look for an
update) but the Firewall is playing safe and not allowing any connection it
does not know about. You need to 'train' the firewall.

I could take you through Norton firewall (it is quite easy) but it would be
better if you would let us know what firewall software are you using.

too much. If and ONLY IF the computer is fully protected with up-to-date
threat prevention it is a reasonable presumption that it isn't something
nasty!
