I just tried to upgrade using Windows Update. It gave me a dialog
with a progress bar and seemed to be displaying file names for 50
minutes. But then the bar stopped moving and it stopped displaying
different text. It said it was performing cleanup. I looked at the
Task Manager and it said the processes were still running. I waited
about an hour but nothing happened. Eventually I got the error db
where it says send or don't send an error report.

I looked at the details of the error and it said "Windows Service Pack
Setup" in the top bar and AppName:update.exe among other things.

One thing that is diff is Windows Explorer, Help>About, displays
nothing at all!

What should I do?

Thank you

When I wrote the original article, I had not rebooted.

Now that I have rebooted, the Windows Explorer Help/About DOES say I
have SP2. Also, some new screens at bootup suggest that I have SP2.

Windows Media Player disappeared from my desktop but the program is
still there.

Is it possible SP2 loaded okay even though it says it failed?

Then you have it... or would you prefer that Bill Gates show up at
your doorstep and affirm it himself?

I just went to Windows Update "Review your update history" and it
still says Failed, but there is a red X but with a question mark next
to it.

I'm on the verge of getting Alzheimer's, so I'm not sure, but I think
that's an indication that the upgrade MIGHT have failed.

Is the update still offered to you? It can't hurt to try it again.

When Windows Boots did the color of the bar change? I believe it goes
from green to blue.
