Problem scanning for updates

The past couple of days when I go to the Microsoft update
site and click on scan for updates, I get a message
saying that there was an error and it couldn't scan for
updates. Is this a problem with my system or a problem
with the Microsoft program that is scanning for updates?
Does this have anything to do with the security levels
that I set in Internet Explorer?

Hi,

Instead of using help and support to launch the windows update, you can do this way.

open a browser and then type this url http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
this will launch the program.
