Can't access Windows Update or Windows Update Newsgroup......

When I try to go to Windows Update, it starts checking for current version,
then stops and says " The website encountered a problem and cannot display
the page you are trying to view" with an Error number:0x80072EFF. Also when I
try to go to the Windows Update Newsgroup it just says " Navigation canceled"
but I can go to other Newsgroups. I don't have this problem with my other
computer and I've tried many different virus scans with nothing found. What
could the problem and where would I look?

0x80072EFF ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_RESET

Is the system's time and date set correctly ?

Which " many different virus scans " were used, please ?

What is the edition of Windows and what Service Pack level ?

A general fix, *IF* there's no malware issue, would be to reset the
updating components: How do I reset Windows Update components?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

The most effective way to employ the above Fixit is to download, *save*
it, configure the system to Clean boot, then run MicrosoftFixit
50202.msi, and first choose the Default mode. Restart.
See if the system can update now. If no joy, run it again with the
system connected to the internet, in the Aggressive mode. Restart.
See if the system can update now.
Then UNdo the Clean boot steps and see if it can search for updates in
normal Windows mode.
