Problem removing DC

E

Emad R. Anwar

Dear All,

I have a problem in removing a DC in my windows 2000 domain.
I setup windows 2000 server to be DC for my already existing domain, and
when I try to remove the Active directory with "dcpromo" from that machine,
I get the following error.

The operation failed because:
The Directory service failed to replicate off changes made locally.
"The DAS operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure. "

I checked with nslookup, and I believe the DNS I am using ( installed on my
PDC) is working fine.

Any help to solve this problem ..
Thanks a lot in Advance.

Is this the last DC in your domain?
Anyway take a look at how to use dcpromo /forceremoval
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332199

And if this is not your last DC, from that page you have the link to "HOW
TO: Remove Data in Active Directory After an Unsuccessful Domain Controller
Demotion"
