Need HELP....had main board go up in smoke & had to install a new one .
After i rebooted windows is now saying only so many days to activate .I
have a LEGIT Windows XP Home that originally came with the computer...i
thought windows was supposed to allow hardware changes over a period of
time , this is the first thing that has ever been done to the computer
in 2 yrs .Is there anyway to work around this without having to buy
another windows operating system .
Tks ANY info greatly appreciated !!!!

Xp will give you a phone number to ring under activate. Ring it explain what
happened and they'll give you another activation code.

If you have a preinstalled version of Windows XP,
that version is likely BIOS-locked to the original
computer's motherboard. If that is the case, you'll
need to purchase a new copy of Windows XP Home
Edition and perform a "Repair Install".
