Problem opening attachments in Outlook Newsreader

C

constructor

Hello NG,

I can't open attachments sent with the messages in the NG. I can see the
paper clip symbol and when I click on it, the file name is shown as well as
the "save file" option but both grayed out.
How can I activate this function?

Best regards, Uwe

Outlook is not a news reader. Determine which news reader you are using and
post in that group. The default is Outlook Express.

you are right, its Outlook Express.
Bye.

What a rude and arrogant answer.
Everybody starts everything the first time. I switched to the newsreader
starting Outlook! For me as a beginner it looks like the newsreader is a
part of Outlook. I didn't notice that Outlook starts Outlook Express's
newsreader.
You could tell me this in a more friendly way.
For your pacification: I'm leaving this NG and I'll not subscribe to any
other NG where I can see that YOU are participating in also!

Outlook have never supported NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) to
access newsgroups and probably never will. The "News" toolbar/menu
button has Outlook load Outlook Express (or Windows Mail) to do
newsgroups. To see what application gets loaded to handle newsgroups,
go to Internet Options -> Programs and see what is listed as the
Newsgroups application.

You are posting here using Windows Mail (WM). That is the Windows Vista
replacement for Outlook Express (OE). I don't use Windows Vista (thank
god) so I'm not familiar with Windows Mail. The later Windows Live Mail
(WLM) client will be the replacement for both OE and WM. Although I
have personal dislikes of WLM and won't use it until forced to, you
might consider installing that one and using it (go to
http://get.live.com and make sure you DISABLE all the other crap except
for Mail). While there were some functional changes in WLM, there were
very few additional features added to it, so WLM has the same
limitations as OE regarding its use as a newsreader client.

The Windows Vista client (Windows Mail) has its own newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

The Windows Live Mail client has its own newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Depends on your attitude when you read that post. Usenet is an anarchy.
Children, adults, retards, kooks, malcontents, and all types of humans
sampled from the worldwide population inhabit Usenet. Extremely few
groups are moderated. Usenet (newsgroups) is not a forum where the
resources are focused under the control of a single owner or entity,
where policies can be enforced, and where the community is far smaller.
Thin-skinned egos don't fare well in Usenet.

Hmm, must've been looking at the headers for someone else's post and
thought you were using Windows Mail. You used Outlook Express. Outlook
Express is dead. The last update was over 2 years ago in service pack 2
for Windows XP. There will be no further updates to OE. Microsoft is
[probably] moving to WLM as the replacement to OE and WM.

Geez, guys. Cut Uwe some slack. Microsoft is the criminal here, not Uwe.
Microsoft is the one who gave Outlook Express and Outlook nearly identical
names even though the programs are completely unrelated. Microsoft is the
one who deliberately created this false impression by seamlessly launching
Outlook Express from Outlook to read news and then calling it the "Outlook
Newsreader" as if Outlook were actually reading NNTP.
Just redirect users to the correct site for support. Don't blame them for
being fooled by Microsoft marketing's sleight of hand.
Uwe, you'll find support for OE here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com.microsoft,public.windoes.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
If this group isn't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:
