Problem making a simple copy of an audio CD

I have an audio CD that I need to make a copy of.
The problem is the CDRW drive in my computer is the only CD drive. I have
been trying to copy with WMP to the hard drive and back to a blank CD but
WMP keeps changing the file format to .WMA .
I need to copy the CD to the hard drive and back to a blank CD while
maintaining the .CDA format.
I tried just doing a simple copy from the CD to the hard drive with out WMP
but all that I got was a small 1Kb file for each track.

Is there a way to make a copy of an audio CD without a second CD ROM?
Thanks
Chris

If you have Nero 6, open the StartSmart application, and then hover on the
favorites icon. There should be a "Copy disc" button. Click on it.

I just have WinXP. Is there a way to do this without purchasing a 3rd party
product? This is the first time in 5 years I have wanted to make an audio
CD and it will probably be quite a while before I need to do it again. I
don't want to purchase a product for something I will do so seldom.

Windows XP can not do a disc to disc copy. you will have to use a third
party program to do it.

I believe that www.stompinc.com has a trial version of RecordNow Max.

Forget it, just looked, 30 day trial no longer exists. However it is a great burning program and inexpensive when compared to Nero or Roxio.

Yes. I'd recommend the freeware "ripper" CDex: http://www.cdex.n3.net/ to
extract (rip) the audio tracks to WAV format, which can then be burned to
CD-R with no audio quality loss, using your burning software. If you have
no burning software (it should have come bundled with your burner but
possibly not) an easier alternative would be to use MusicMatch Jukebox
(freeware version) from http://www.musicmatch.com/ MusicMatch will rip the
audio tracks to your hard drive, and you can then use MusicMatch to burn the
files to CD-R.

Burning software converts WAV files to the CDA format autmatically when
creating an audio CD.

Regards,
Ian.

Didn't your CD-burner come with any software? Nearly all of them come with
either Nero, Nero Express or Roxio Cheesy CD Creator.
