Problem installing XP SP2

I've tried may times installing SP2 with the same error each time... a simple
window appears after download etc. as files are being installed after
expanding I get a simple window stating 'Access Denied' and I'm forced to
roll-back.

I've done all that has been asked of me to prepare for the install, spyware
/ adware removed, norton turned off etc. and still the same result. I had a
look at the knowledge base and it indicated that maybe there was a registry
permissions issue. i refreshed and revised all of my registry with regard to
this and still the same no help message, nothing in the event viewer either
was of help.

Has anyone seen this before as it's very frustration

It happens occasionally.
Often this helps:

Usually one of the first three steps resolves it.

If not it is often a firewall and/or malware issue.
Those will usually be resolved by Strep 4 the Service Pack Installation
Checklist.
