Problem installing Wanadoo Broadband

The broadband installation disk will not launch. The autorun begins but is
quickly aborted with the error message: The ordinal 1334 could not be located
in the dynamic link library IML32.dll. Any other disk works OK in the drive -
so I don't believe the drive to be at fault. Wanadoo insist the problem is
not with their disk. I have been through the MS Knowledge Base where
reference to ordinals and the .dll filename appear frequently, so I feel sure
the problem is with Windows XP. Can anyone confirm this? Is my best remedial
action to uninstall and reinstall XP or is there another way to correct the
problem? Many thanks for whatever help comes my way.

You don't need the disk to set up Wanadoo broadband. All you need to do is
download the drivers for the modem from the internet. The only additional
thing the disk does is rebrand OE and IE to Wanadoo plus put a Wanadoo icon
on the desktop.

Tony, many thanks for your very prompt response. I must add that I have no
problems launching the Wanadoo disk on another PC (not the one I want the
installation on), and on entering Help I found full .pdf documentation on how
to install the modem. But the Wanadoo Broadband disk also requires account
information (which I have). Will installing the modem directly as you advise
also allow me to complete the necessary account formality with Wanadoo?

Yes, when you install the modem, you can create a dial up box to input your
username and password. Downloading the latest driver from the internet is
usually a better option than using the wanadoo disk which more than likely
has an old driver on it.

You can create the dial up from control panel, click on network connections
icon and then "create a new connection".

Tony,
Managed to solve the problem - at its source. The iml32.dll file that was
causing the trouble was contained in the Macromedia Shockwave programs
previously installed in the PC (I understand it is used universally to
enhance graphics). In fact there were 5 separate installations of Shockwave,
varying from versions 7 to 10. There was clearly a conflict between these
versions as the Wanadoo Broadband installation disc needed Shockwave to
launch its graphics. The remedy was to unistall these 5 Shockwave programs
and any residual iml32.dll files, and reinstall the latest version from the
Macromedia website. The Wanadoo disc launched without problem. Thanks for
your help.
