Problem installing scanner?

Last my week old scanner a CanonN1240U stopped working (error message
suggested a broken cable). This was not the case and after some
preliminary investigations I thought the scanner was defunct and bought
a replacement (Canon Lide 60).

After uninstalling the old version and software I installed the new
scanner software and all was going splendidly with the following
messages being received:

‘Found New Hardware’
‘Your hardware is installed and ready to use’
I also got a message saying the device can perform faster but on my
fairly old machine I do not have any ‘Hi-Speed USB ports.

Unfortunately to my dismay, when I tried to scan my first pictures I
got the following message headed by Scan Gear CS:

‘Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner
may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed.

After closing this message a further message was displayed under the
header ‘Canoscan Toolbox: ‘Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check
connection. Then restart toolbox’.

I have removed the software and re-installed on a couple of occasions
but to no avail. Also when I have looked in the ‘Device Manager’ the
scanner is not there? Does anybody know what the problem might be? I do
not know if I have two good or bad scanners but suspect the problem
maybe software related.

One other thing, the scanner came with two discs rather than one which
it states in the instructions. Both are labelled ‘CanoScan Setup CD-Rom
version 1.01 and one is labelled FB6-5351 and the other is identical
apart from being called FB6-5352. I have tried both but still get the
same error messages.

Advice, tips etc gratefully received!

Install the scanner drivers and software, following the manufacturers
instructions "precisely". Have the instructions printed out and in front of
you before to even try to begin.

I have a Canon D1250U2F scanner. Let me tell you, it is not an easy chore to
install their drivers and software. It took me about 2 hours the very first
time I attempted to do so. The installation flies in defiance of everything
everyone knows about installing software and drivers. Now that I have found
out, it takes about 5 minutes.

It turns out that I "did not" do exactly as the instructions said! When they
say do not plug in the scanner until instructed, they mean just that. Hell,
all companies say that, yet the drivers install just fine with the device
plugged in and powered up. Not Canon!

Run the setup program from your saved location, say in
F:\Downloads\Canon\Scanner. The installation for the above scanner creates a
folder on the C: drive. The installation continues from there, by opening an
HTML file in your browser. Any other device, you just run setup from it's
saved location and be done with it.

Dear sir,

I have install a used Canon D1250U2F to my XP and is without the
installation manual. I ve also download it's driver from Canon USA website.
And like u put it, "it's not an easy chore" and it's still not working.

By any chance u could e-mail a copy of the "step by step" installation manual?

Thank you.
