Problem installing Access 97 on Vista (64)

Ok, ok ... I know.

The problem is that there is an old program written in Access97 that is
still used here in my office. And none of the users want to migrate to
any of the canned programs that can do the job (better).

So I have to have Access97 installed to run it.

So I get this new computer, core 2, so I go ahead with Vista Enterprise
64bit. Everything is fine until I go to install Access97. It gets
almost completely done, then gives me an error message of:

"This application uses CTL3D32.DLL, which has not been correctly
installed. CTL3D32.DLL must be installed in the Windows system
directory."

A quick search shows that the file exists, but in the C:\Windows
directory. Closing that error window then gives an error message of:
"An error has occurred at changing workgroup database"

Followed by:
"Setup couldn't create a SYSTEM.MDW file. After Setup is completed,
reboot your computer, then run the Workgroup Administrator before
you run this application. (-1011)

So I reboot and run the Workgroup Administrator program. Same errors
(well, different messages, but they say the same thing).

Someone please tell me that I can run Access97 on Vista...

I can't tell you that you can run Access97 on Vista because I don't
know. The Access gurus in the Access newsgroup(s) probably can, though.
It might be easiest for you to install Virtual PC or VMWare and run XP
or Win98 in a virtual machine for this program, though.

Here is a list of all the MS public newsgroups:
