access 97 on vista

Well, I've searched this forum and tried many suggestions, but keep coming up
with problems.

We're a non-profit nature center, and can't afford to replace software like
this, so I'm trying to get our database onto the new Vista computer.
1) When we first loaded access97 it told us that we didn't meet minimum
requirements. We've since gotten around that.
2) We've switched compatability mode and that only got us so far.
3) Now we've got the error message "Object ID 3405: RegOleAu CAH:
OleDllRegisterServer call failed"

Can anyone help with what to try next?

I forgot to mention, we did manage to get a copy loaded at one point, but it
wasn't starting and told us that we had a system error or not enough memory!?!

If you are a genuine charity you could write to Microsoft and ask. I was
sent free, 4 editions of XP Office 2000 so that I could teach. in a charity
setting.

Why would you use something like Access 97 instead of the OpenOffice version
of Access??

If your system can handle Vista, it can handle OpenOffice.

If you can afford Vista, why can't you afford a newer version of Office?

Oh wait, ignore my last post - I don't even know if there is an OpenOffice
version of Access!!

Browsing the OpenOffice web site... found this blurb...

"For more advanced requirements, BASE supports many popular databases
database natively (Adabas D, ADO, Microsoft Access, MySQL), or any database
through industry-standard ODBC and JDBC drivers."

Without actually testing an Access DB with Base, I'd reserve stating that it
works with Access DB's without issue. Which versions of Access DB's? Who
knows? I'm not going to dig -that- far into the OO website to find an
answer.

Sorry I can't solve your problem but I can help. This group is for
Windows Vista and your problem is a Microsoft Office problem.

Repost your message in an Office forum or an Access forum and you'll
find a bunch of experts who can probably solve your problem BUT be
aware that Office 97 is not supported in Vista so there may not be an
answer. Here's some newsgroups that may help:

microsoft.public.office.misc or
microsoft.public.office.setup or
microsoft.public.access

I'd try the last one first.

Hope you find your answer.
