problem extending volume

on our win2k advaned server, our hdd was running out of
space. we added a new 36.4GB hdd, our volume was initally
basic, so we upgraded it to dynamic and using our
serveraid manager i migrated this hdd to the exisitng
array. migration was succesful but no free space was added.

i went onto the disk management console and all i could
find was 14.9gb of unallocated space in this volume. we i
tried extending the new volume, i cant do it as the volume
was initially configured as basic.

how do i add this new hdd to current volume?

You can not extend a volume on a dynamic disk that was originally created on
a basic disk.

They optimal thing to do in this situation is this.

1. Leave the disk as Basic.
2. Extend the Logical Drive at the hardware level so we see the new
unallocated space.
3. Use Diskpart to extend the volume to the new unallocated space. (space
must be contiguous).
