Problem deleting files via Explorer

- The user has been granted Full Control access to the
NTFS directory / files.

- When the user tries to delete the file via Explorer,
the first file deletion is successful, but subsequent
deletion encounters the following error occur:
* Error Deleting File or Folder
* Cannot delete __filename__: It is being used by
another person or program. Close any programs that might
be using the file and try again.

- I have verified the file is not being used by anyone
(checked via Computer Management).

- If the user deletes the files via "START | RUN |
\\server\sharename", she has a lot better success rate.

- Have tried .... rebooting the server, ran Defrag on the
disk, reapplied the NTFS permissions, copied the files to
a new directory, remove and re-add the user's group
access .... the problem always reoccurs.

Has anyone else encountered this problem before? If so,
any suggestion as to the workaround?

Hi there,

Usually in these cases some process has the file open. You can see what
process keeps the file open with a tool like Process Explorer, get it from
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml. Use the search
feature to search for an open handle, just enter the filename that you
cannot delete.
