problem copying xp to new drive

I'm having problems copying xp from a quantum 60 gb drive
to a new western digital 120 gb drive. I tried to copy
using the data lifeguard utilities that came with the new
drive, but after copying it would boot all the way to log
on but then error messages came up saying "A problem is
preventing windows from accuratly checking the license
for this computer. error code : 0x80090006". The strange
thing is that if I put the old quantum drive on the
secondary cable as a slave and have the new western
digital drive as the master on the primary cable it boots
just fine but when I click on my computer the new drive
letter is d: and the old drive on the secondary cable is
drive c:. I tried copying several times same result. Then
I tried using a program called transxp to do the copy and
it copies fine and the new drive boots but in xp the
drive shows as being only 60 gb instead of 120 gb. I can
partition, format and boot with the old drive and the new
drive as the slave and it shows as 120 gb, but as soon as
I'm done copying I click on my computer and the drive
capacity is back to 60 gb. Although if I check the
properties of the drive from the hardware tab there's a
tab called volumes and the drive capacity is 120 gb and
it says 60 gb unallocated. Anybody have any idea what the
problem could be or how to correct it? Does this seem
like a problem with xp, the drive, or the copying tools
I'm using. I've e-mailed western digital but of course
they say it's a problem with xp.

Windows XP is activated on a computer which is identified
with certain numbers, your new drive appears to not be a
properly installed OS because the numbers have changed. I
seem to remember that this has been mentioned, that you can
copy the volume number or such to the new drive.

But I think you could do a repair install to the new drive
and reactivate the OS.

When you mirrored the 60 GB drive, it only setup 60 GB on
the 120 GB drive, not knowing what to do with the other 60
GB. You need to format the unallocated space.

How exactly would I format the unallocated space without
messing up the rest of the drive. I didn't mention it but
I did try to do a repair installation but it kept locking
up at detecting devices. By "copy the volume number" do
you mean copy the "system volume information" file.

.Format the drive (wd,120), then copy windows? 60 gb
unallocatd means its there, but unused.

Right click MY COMPUTER and select manage. Then follow the
menus to storage/disk management. The space can be select
and formatted. The other data should be safe.

Look here http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm for
information, item 9 for vsn.
