problem connecting to the database engine

I've been using BCM for some time and had a few minor problems which were
fixable but now it's failed completely and I can't fix it. Every time I open
Outlook, I get the message "There was a problem connecting to the database
engine. To try again, please click retry. if the problem persists check
help. I can't open my BCM database at all. After a short delay, Outlook
works normally. Tried a recommended fix to add users to the BCM user group
but this has not helped. I closed BCM and now can't even reopen it! My
versions are Outlook 2003 (11.8010.6568) SP2 running on Windows XP
Professional 5.1.2600 SP2. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi Jaclyn

When you go to services.msc ensure that the MSSSQL$MicrosoftBCM or
MSSSQL$Microsoftslmbiz is set to started .If you have problem starting the
service go to add remove program uninstall BCM.Then navigate to C:\Program
Files\MSSQL server and rename the same to MSSQLserverold.Once this is done
reinstall BCM

Hope this helps

Hi Raul

MSSSQL$MicrosoftBCM was not set to started altho' it was set to automatic.
When I tried to start it, although it indicated that it had started in the
status column, the service status said 'stopped'. Tried to start BCM again
but no luck. Decided to follow yr further advice and proceed with
uninstall/reinstallation and now everything seems to be running correctly -
can can open BCM and see my database.

Thank you very much for your help.
