I have a 98SE and a W2k PC connected using a crossover cable and two Realtec
cards but neither PC is able to communicate with the other.
Any suggestions or point to where I can get some information would be
greatly appreciated.

Be sure that you don't have any firewall software on eith machine that
may be blocking the connection.

Make sure both machines belong to the same workgroup and that each
have a different computer name.

High Peter, how are the two network cards configured? If you could do
an ipconfig /all on both machines and post the result here, it might
help.

Cheers,

What protocols do you have? If only TCP/IP then try
installing protocol IPX/SPX/NetBIOS then you may get them
chatting away to each other.

I would suggest just running TCP/IP, NetBIOS, and NetBEUI.

If you don't have a router (which would break up a broadband internet
connection), you would need to assign ip addresses to each computer... but a
router would be the best option for your home network
