Problem Browsing After Changing Computer Name

J

Jeff Clarke

Having a problem browsing shares on a server that I had
to format I had to redo. Its former name was SVR-APPS-
01, and I decided while formatting to change the computer
name to SVRAPPS01 (w/o dashes).

I then left an entry in the DNS for SVR-APPS-01 as well
as the new SVRAPPS01, and both point to the same IP
address so that my clients can still use their shortcuts.

However, I can browse by typing \\SVR-APPS-01, but I
can't see my share names, and my client's shortcuts are
not working.

I get the message....a duplicate name was found on the
network or network path not found.

Any ideas how to get it working without having to visit
all of my desktops?

Thanks,

Jeffrey Clarke

This is not a dns issue but a netbios issue. You should either correct the
shortcuts on the desktops to look at the new server name or change the name
of the server. Not knowing what other functions this server provides I
wouldn't recommend changing its name.
