When my friends PC is booting up she sees loads of black screens with white
writing, she gets a message that tells her to be able to resume loading
press the F1 key!! I told her I didn't think she should be getting any of
that. Now it seems to have reached the stage that it isn't resuming
sometimes. It looks like it's 'dumping' something. I've got her to find the
error log

C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini100704-02dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\Susan\LOCALS~1\temp\WER69.tmp.dir00\Sysdata.xml

I got her to do a system restore but still no joy. Now she can't
send/receive mail again like she had last week, but I think that has
something to do with going 1 System Restore point back too many.
Got some more info. She also noticed that last time she booted up and got
this problem a Found New Hardware box appeared its description was ATAPI01
CD Rom Drive 50MAX. When she gets the problem she gets a blue screen which
says Beginning to dump memory and in the corner there are seconds counting
down.

It sounds very much like your friend's computer has failing hardware.
She should take it to a good local repair shop (not a BestBuy or
CompUSA type of store) because from your post, I doubt she will be able
to do hardware diagnosis herself. This is not meant to slight your
friend, of course. I'm just being practical.
