Hi All,

I have had this problem with both SP1 and SP1a, whether applying the
express install or the fully downloaded package.

When I run the installer, it gets to the phase "Updating your
system"/"Inspecting your current configuration"/"Inspecting" and just
sits there at 100% cpu. I've let it run for up to an hour and it never
goes past this point. CPU is flat out, and the drive light flashes
every couple of seconds. I shut down the virus checker, firewall and
all other programs before running the SP installer.

The PC is a Sony Vaio GR114MK laptop, PIII/512Mb. It came with Win2k
on it, as well as a companion disk with an XPPro upgrade. First I
installed the XPPro upgrade CD, but it had a problem: it wouldn't
allow me to create a dialup connection as that option was grayed out.
A seach on the MS kb found references to similar issues and seemed to
suggest applying SP1 which is why I'm here.

Any suggestions or fixes to either the SP or dialup issue much
appreciated!

that same thing happened to me as well...
you can just close the browser...

to check if it installed successfully, you can go to windows update and
click into the "download history" <--(or some shit like that) to see if you
have install the program successfully....

if not... do that update again, but this time let it sits at 100% complete
for like 30 mins then you can close the browser and restart the computer
again...

atleast that's how i did it and it seems to work fine for me now :P

good luck

... Interesting... but is that a reliable indication that the XP fully installed? Is there some way of corroborating that by looking a tthe versions of dll's or exe's installed by the SP I wonder?
