Problem after virus removal

I have just removed a backdoor.hacdef.c virus from my PC. I disabled system
restore and have now turned it back on. Running Win XP with AVG 7.0.
AVG told me nothing about the virus so I removed it with the AVG tool. Now
whenever I right click on an application I crash to my desktop.
How can I get round this problem?

Boot from XP cd and choose 'Repair Installalation'
