Probably not a winXP problem?

Hi,
Using WIN XP OEM HOME, 80G HDD, 512 Ram, ATT.NET as ISP,

Often, I receive email attachments from friends that are supposed to be
photographs, but on my computer are just white squares with thin black
borders. In each such square, one per picture, there is a tiny square
in the upper left hand corner. Within that tinys quare is a tiny blue
triangle, a blue circle and a red square. No matter what or where I
click on, no picture.

I'm hoping that if I'm not in the right venue, someone may at least
recognize my situation and offer help. PS: I'd rather not receive
picture in emails that are not family pictures from family. But how
would I let the sender know without offending dear friends. They spend
fortunes on computers and all they do is send jokes and silly pictures.
Patence is a virtue indeed!
Thanks so much for any help. Or even a little sympathy would help!

try right clicking the picture and select 'show picture'
Also, you might want to check your email preferences for the types of things
like pictures or attachments you have blocked.

It's possible that your friends are just dragging the icon
for the picture into the email message and are only
sending a LINK not an actual picture. Ask if they're
using the ATTACHMENT function when sending the email,
that's the correct way to do it . . .

Usually when this occur's the individual sending the picture is sending it
in a format or program that is not recognized by your computer.

For many reasons, it may be safer and easier if you ask your friends to send
it with zipped attachments so the size is smaller and it will not be
blocked.

You can save the attachment, unzip, scan it and then open it.

Many new safety features tend to block pictures in the email which I
personally think is a good practice.

Hope this helps.
