prob.s after home -> pro upgrade

Hi,

a friend of mine has upgraded from xp home to pro and has
quite a few problems, among them; destop icons missing,
start menu programs missing, system restore not
functioning (in either capacity, which seems to stop a
virus patch working when it tries to set a restore
point), automatic updates desabled, Word not working and
the apparent appearence of one of those worms that
restarts your machine (coincidence?!). Are these problems
well known, or just a one-off?

Is it possible to undo the upgrade?

Any help much appriciated.

As far as the first two problems go (desktop icons missing, start menu
programs missing) - are you sure your friend performed an upgrade install
rather than a new (clean) install? If so, are they logging into the same
user account that they did before?
