Upgrading from xp home to xp pro

I recently purchased a new Dell 5150 that came with windows xp home and wish
to updgrade it with a version of xp pro from the machine that I am replacing.
That machine was also had the home verison. I purchased the upgrade version
of xp pro and have downloaded and installed sp 2 and all upgrades and patches
since then. When attempting to install upgrade from orginal upgrade cd on
new system I get a message stating that the current version is newer than the
cd version.

It also states that should I decide to delete the newer version that files
and settings cannot be recovered. It continues to say that both versions can
be kept but that I must seleclt a new destination to do so.

Number 1, should I keep both versions so that I have files and settings for
the new system as I really don't what specific files they are referring to.
Could it effect the operation of the new system?

Number 2, should I not want or need to keep both versions what do I need to
do to enable the install of my "old xp pro version" in to the new machine
with the newer version of xp home?

You need to slipstream Service Pack 2 into your Pro upgrade which is
apparently pre-SP2. This is quite easy. I like AutoStreamer but there
are other methods:

Uninstall SP2 through Add/Remove programs or slipstream the Windows XP
CD to SP2.

You need to create a "slipstreamed" XP Pro installation CD
which contains SP2.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP

Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to
follow this procedure:

Professionals and Developers

AutoStreamer 1.0.33

Malke,

Have you ever tried slipstreaming a Dell OEM copy of XP Pro? I tried, but
just made a coaster. I was hoping that maybe someone else may have been
successful!

Yes. I used AutoStreamer and have slipstreamed versions of Dell XP Home
and Pro with no difficulties. I don't know why you had the issue.
